Short bio: Maddy's previous research addressed the problem of human pose estimation from video, developing models that combined graph neural networks and transformer architectures to capture the spatio-temporal structure of human motion. Their current doctoral research extends this interest in structured learning to robotic control, focusing on robust skill chaining within hierarchical reinforcement learning. Specifically, the work investigates how modular skills can be composed into coherent behaviours and reliably adapted when agents encounter conditions that differ from those encountered during training.
